What 1Ruler is for

1Ruler turns the browser window into a practical on-screen measuring surface. The tool is designed for small everyday objects, craft work, labels, paper sizes, classroom tasks, interface checks and other situations where a physical ruler is not close at hand.

Why calibration is part of the tool

A browser can report pixels very accurately, but pixels do not have one fixed physical size across every display. A phone, laptop and desktop monitor can show the same number of pixels at very different real-world sizes. That is why 1Ruler provides card and screen-diagonal calibration instead of pretending that every display is identical.

How we develop the site

The public interface is intentionally lightweight. The ruler is drawn in the browser, calibration can be saved locally on the device, and the core site does not need a large JavaScript framework or remote font package. We aim to keep controls understandable on touch screens and desktop browsers while avoiding decorative elements that get in the way of measuring.

Editorial approach

Guides on this site are written to answer the question on the page rather than to repeat the same search phrases. When a measurement depends on calibration, browser zoom, operating-system scaling or monitor choice, we say so. We do not describe a browser ruler as a certified measuring instrument.

Accuracy and responsible use

For everyday checks, calibration can make an on-screen ruler useful and convenient. Measurements that affect health, safety, legal requirements, manufacturing tolerances or commercial certification should always be verified with an appropriate physical or certified instrument.
